Tops date back at least to 3500 BC. This top, a throwing top, was popular with the kids of my generation in the 1940s and 1950s. The tops I played with had a steel tip, which could scratch a wood floor easily. The ones that I make have a replaceable plastic tip that will not damage a floor. The tops are turned from maple, sanded smoth, and then finished to a satin sheen. Each top comes with a string cut to the length needed for the the top and illustrated instructions for throwing and spinning the top. The price for the smaller top is $25.00 and $35.00 for the larger top.
Tops can be made from other woods. Contact Berkshire Pens for details.
